Improve fertility: Get that laptop out of your lap
In an article published November 8, 2010, Fertility And Sterility cited research confirming that the heat from laptops can cause infertility in men. The heat generated by the laptop is such that, even when using a cooling pad to shied the scrotum, it causes scrotal hypothermia resulting in reduced fertility.
However, scrotal hypothermia isn’t the only thing that can cause decreased fertility among men. According to an article at Conceiving Concepts, Dr. Panayiotis Zavos, a University of Kentucky professor of reproductive physiology, “The cheapest and most efficient way of improving male fertility is to quit smoking.” However, according to a report issued by the Centers for Disease Control, well over 25% of the males in Kentucky smoke cigarettes. And since Kentucky is one of the key states for growing tobacco, getting these men to all quit smoking would take some kind of minor miracle.
Since it’s unlikely that the day will ever come that all Kentucky men will stop smoking, the next best thing we can hope for, if we hope to continue the procreation of Kentuckeans, is to get them to sit in a different position when they’re using their laptops.
The research conducted by Fretility And Sterility found that scrotal temperature increases regardless of how men sit or whether or not they use a cooling laptop pad. But if they sit with their legs apart, it takes 11 minutes longer for the scrotal temperature to reach the danger zone.
The moral of the story? Either quit smoking, get your laptop out of your lap, or be prepared for fatherhood!
